QUESTIONS FOR THE TECHNICIANS

Q: What battery charger brand is the best for our industry?
A: We would recommend Battery Tender.

Q: Do you change tires?
A: Yes, we change tires on dirt bikes and smaller ATVs.

Q: I want to get my SxS lifted. Do you do customizations and lifts?
A: Wide Open Mobile Tech focuses solely on the diagnostic, service, and repair of motorcycles, ATVs, and side-by-sides. We do not do lift kits, lights, or aftermarket customizations.

Q: I am 5’3” and have trouble touching the ground comfortably on the sport bikes I’ve looked at. Is there something that you can do to help with this?
A: Yes, a motorcycle can be adjusted in various ways to fit the comfort and riding style of rider. We take into consideration height, weight, and other variables when we meet with the customer and our factory-trained technician can make recommendations and complete the adjustments on-site.

Q: How often should I check the chain tension on my motorcycle?
A: Your pre-ride safety check should always include a tire pressure and chain tension check. To perform a chain tension check, place your bike on a rear stand, push up on the chain from the bottom (looking for 1-1/2” of movement), spin the rear wheel a quarter turn and push up on the chain again. Keep repeating until you have moved through the length of the chain looking for both loose and tight spots.

Q: Are you guys equipped to rebuild engines?
A: Generally, our factory-trained technicians can rebuild most motorcycle, ATV, side-by-side, and dirt bike engines. However, it is best to contact us with the make and model to confirm.

Q: When should I get my air filter cleaned?
A: If your machine’s air filter is easy to access, we suggest checking it every few months (or every few rides depending on the machine), however it is generally taken care of during your preventative maintenance schedule and it will be checked and cleaned by our factory-trained technician during service appointments.

Q: We are looking into buying our son a dirt bike. Is there anything we should be aware of on the maintenance side?
A: As with all machines, it is vital to following your manufacturer’s preventative maintenance schedule, however maintenance on a dirt bike does differ from a street bike, given the environment they are being ridden in. Staying on top of valve clearance inspections at regular intervals is important as related issues can affect performance and also cause serious damage if left undetected. Keeping up with regular air filter maintenance is essential as the air filter is the lungs of the machine and a dirty intake system can lead to costly repairs in the future. As for competition dirt bikes, you want to have the top-end of your bike refreshed at least once per year. Our factory-trained technicians can handle all of these services for you and at your location for your convenience.

Q: I’ve heard your technician mention valve clearance. Can you explain it to me?
A: Sure! Every machine has an intake valve and exhaust valve that open and close thousands of times per minute. If the valves are not within specifications it effects the air-to-fuel ratio which can cause issues with starting, the machine running hot, decrease in gas mileage, and ultimately engine problems. Wide Open Mobile Tech strongly encourages every motorcycle, dirt bike, ATV, and side-by-side owner to have valve clearance inspections performed on their machines at the proper intervals.
